Lauer readies new album for Permanent Vacation

Lauer readies new album for Permanent Vacation
25.03.2015

Frankfurt producer and Tuff City Kids member Lauer will drop his second full-length album in May.

Longstanding Frankfurt producer (and, as half of the Tuff City Kids outfit, a frequent Gerd Janson collaborator) Phillip Lauer (or simply just Lauer) will issue his second full-length album, Borndom, in the coming months.
The 13-track record follows behind Lauer's impressive string of releases dating back to the early aughts for labels such as Running Back, Beats in Space, and the imprint which will release his forthcoming LP, Permanent Vacation, among others. With a style "rooted in pop music and mixed with the reactance and sound aesthetics of punk, while wearing dancing shoes," Lauer's Borndom LP promises to be a melodically rich affair that seeks out many different paths to the dancefloor.

Ahead of the album's May 8 release date, Permanent Vacation has let loose a full stream of LP cut "ESC," a new wave-indebted cut flush with classic synth tones and thick vocal layers from Jasnau. The tune can be streamed in full below, where the complete tracklist for Lauer's Borndom LP has also been included.

Pre-listen to Glenn Astro's debut album
23.03.2015

Glenn Astro will release his debut album on Tartelet Records in May 2015.

The album is entitled 'Throwback' and that name is at once a perfect fit and not nearly the extent of the story. On the one hand, Astro has filled the double-LP with a wealth of old-school gestures and textures—the warm whoosh of analog synths, the rattle of Rhodes tines and the sizzle of jazzy drums, all held together by the comforting glue of tape hiss and vinyl crackle. If you're used to the clean sonic lines and stylistic streamlining of so much contemporary house music, then Throwback is sure to feel less like a record you just pulled out of plastic wrap than a well-seasoned one salvaged from a flea market or unfinished basement.

Pre-listen to 'Throwback' here.

John Roberts launches new label

John Roberts launches new label
19.03.2015

The Dial regular calls his new label an "abstract outlet for music, printed matter, recordings and books."

John Roberts has started his own label, Brunette Editions.

The American artist told Inverted Audio that Brunette Editions won't just release music—it'll be "an abstract outlet for music, printed matter, recordings and books." It's a natural move for Roberts, who juggles his own musical career with an editing role at a magazine called The Travel Almanac.

"The concept of the label is completely freeform," Roberts says. "I don't have a strict policy with anything. If something unique comes along, no matter what medium, I would be open to releasing it as long as I have a personal connection with the individual who produced it and it made sense to me within the general aesthetic of the project."

The first release on Brunette Editions is a solo record from Roberts, followed by a "multi-media edition" later in 2015. Roberts says the new label won't affect his relationship with Dial Records—he revealed he has an album in the works for the Hamburg label. A Brunette Editions party will take place at Stattbad in Berlin on Friday, April 10th, with Roberts joined by Isolee and Pawel.

RSVP to the event here.

DJ Kicks reintroduces 12-inch series w. John Talabot
24.02.2015

The 2013 tune "Without You" will be issued with a fresh batch of remixes.

DJ-Kicks has reintroduced its 12-inch series, beginning with the John Talabot track "Without You."

"Without You" first appeared on John Talabot's 2013 DJ-Kicks mix, and has never seen an official release. Due out March 23rd, it'll arrive backed by remixes from Thomas Melchior as Melchior Productions Ltd, Oskar Offermann and Hivern Discs artist Mistakes Are Okay.

Overseen by !K7, DJ-Kicks is known primarily as a mix CD series—the most recent installment came from Nina Kraviz. Though it's been dormant for a couple of years, the 12-inch series has traditionally featured an exclusive track from the artist who compiled a DJ-Kicks mix.
