ALTER EGO BIOGRAPHY

Roman Fluegel and Joern Elling Wuttke came together as a production team in the late `80`s after both collecting valuable music experience from previously being in various bands.

1993 Together with the Djs ATA and HEIKO MSO, they established three labels, ONGAKU, KLANG ELEKTRONIK and PLAYHOUSE.

They released several maxi singles and an album under the pseudonym ACID JESUS. Later that year they changed their name to ALTER EGO. The following year they founded SENSORAMA, an outlet for their more ambient tracks.

The first ALTER EGO LP appeared 1994 on SVEN VAETHS HARTHOUSE label, which was at that time, one the most pioneering labels from Germany. The impact of this LP on the British music scene was headlined by remixes from BLACK DOG, LUKE SLATER & DAVID HOLMES.

The success of these projects in England lead to the album »DECODING THE HACKER MYTH«, following up with an UK tour as a live act. The LP also included a bonus remix CD with contributions from ANDREW WEATHERALL`s TWO LONE SWORDSMEN project, MATTHEW HERBERT, LUKE SLATER and ALTER EGO.

Worldwide performances followed at the most prominent festivals & clubs such as TRIBAL GATHERING FESTIVAL - England, SONAR - Spain
VISION Festival - Switzerland
TIME WARP/BIG WARP, SONNE MOND & STERNE, MELT - Germany
I LOVE TECHNO - Belgium and the WIRE Festival - Japan.

1997 ALTER EGO release their last single for Harthouse »ABSOLUTE«. They then decided to concentrate on further productions for their own label KLANG ELEKTRONIK.

1999 saw the release of »BETTY FORD«, which became one of the most memorable and biggest club hits of that year.

2000 »SLAUGHTERHOUSE« was released, accompanied by BETTY FORD REMIXES from DJ Rush, WASSERMANN (Wolfgang Voigt), JUSTIN BERKOVI and Ekkehard Ehlers & Albrecht Kunze`s MAERZ project.

In the two following years ALTER EGO were busy doing a co-production with SVEN VAETH for his albums, »CONTACT« and »FIRE«.

2002 the release of »TRANSPHORMER« a 12” of the title track and appetizer of the forth-coming album released on KLANG ELEKTRONIK.

The year after that, ALTER EGO concentrated on the production of their LP, the single »ROCKER« was released, to give a taste of their new album.

This single was to become the biggest success in the history of ALTER EGO so far, as evidenced not only by a place in the English Top 30 charts. In the last six years, no instrumental song has managed such a high entry into these all important charts in the world of pop.

But also the album has worldwide success: in Germany, this is documented by various nominations in the most important magazines (GROOVE: best track, best album, best live act, RAVELINE: best track, best producer, DE:BUG: number 1 in the single charts, number 4 in the album charts, number 3 in the live act charts, INTRO: number one in the Author Single Charts, and in the Top Ten of the SPEX editor and reader single charts).

In addition, ALTER EGO win the GERMAN DANCE AWARD in the categories “Best Artist” & “Best Track”.

The effect of “ROCKER” does not confine itself to only clubs, parties, raves, etc. This little number of hysterical club music suddenly becomes a winner in all sorts of different scenes - a meanwhile very rare event! The rest is history. Today, in the year 2007, there are countless productions that skilfully play with the elements of rock and dance, influencing club music all over the world.

The hit is followed by extensive live tours on nearly every continent in the next two years.

After the album “TRANSPHORMER”, the critically acclaimed remix album “TRANSPHORMED” is released in the autumn of 2005.

Here on two CDs, in additions to remixes that ALTER EGO have made for other artists in the past (e.g. THE HUMAN LEAGUE, PRIMAL SCREAM, CHICKS ON SPEED, OCTAVE ONE, 2RAUMWOHNUNG), they present a cross-section of their own very different versions of songs from the preceding studio album. RICARDO VILLALOBOS, TIEFSCHWARZ, EWAN PEARSON, ERIC PRYDZ, ROBAG WRUHME and ISOLČE, to name but a few, have all remixed ALTER EGO tracks.

2006 finally offers another chance to take another look at producer team's exciting past. KLANG ELEKTRONIK decides to re-release the second ALTER EGO album “DECODING THE HACKER MYTH”.

They create remixes for e.g. the PET SHOP BOYS and DEPECHE MODE.
