Isolée releases new EP on Mule Musiq

Isolée releases new EP on Mule Musiq
22.02.2019

Isolee’s first record out on Mule Musiq for a decade - and his first release of any description for two years - is a typically impressive collection of leftfield house jams. Eponymous cut ‘Ginster’ (we’re not entirely sure if it’s been named after the pasty company) kicks things off with a pattering drum groove and soft synths in a manner similar to Will Long and Moomin. The way in which ‘Sudden Frost’ chops and loops its samples brings to mind a more considered version of Jun Kamoda’s hypno-house. Ginster closer ‘Leap-Second’ repeats the formula of the EP’s title track

After devoting almost his entire life to music via countless aliases (such as Alter Ego, Soylent Green, Roman IV), Roman Flügel is now focussing on releasing and playing music under his real name. After his mix cd for Live At Robert Johnson and various singles and EP's on Dial, Live At Robert Johnson and others (like the highly praised "Brasil"-EP), he released a solo album (the first one under his real name), "Fatty Folders", on Dial Records.
After Flügel's second solo album "Happiness is Happening" on Dial Records was released in 2014, followed by "All The Right Noises" in 2016 on the same label, as well as many many remixes and mixes on different labels, media.

Oliver Hafenbauer, born 1978 is resident DJ and musical curator at Robert Johnson, runs the in-house music label Live At Robert Johnson and his own imprint Die Orakel.

Conventional wisdom dictates that people produce music and then get DJs gigs relative to the level of success their records attain. Oliver Hafenbauer isn't a famous producer, but his behind-the-scenes work at Robert Johnson, the highly respected Offenbach venue, has given him a platform to show just how great a DJ he is.
If anything, his role as a music director at the club is arguably more complementary to DJing than making music, closely considering, as he does each day, who and what moves a discerning dance floor.

Hafenbauer also takes care of the club's in-house label Live At Robert Johnson which hosted a much-loved mix CD series but these days the label is focussed on releasing high quality club music from its extended family—Massimiliano Pagliara, Portable et al — and beyond. In 2013 he started his own label Die Orakel where he releases ambient, leftfield and techno records by artists such as Edward, Jaures and Roman Flügel.

Philipp Lauer is a producer, musician and DJ based in Frankfurt. He performs as Lauer and also as one part in Tuff City Kids with Gerd Janson.
Raised on a strict diet of hip hop & punk rock, Philipp finally succumbed to the pleasures of electronic music in the late nineties when he started to produce deep house tracks.
One of his most successful projects in the early 2000 years was Arto Mwambe with Christian Beißwenger (AKA CB Funk, TCB). During that time Philipp founded his own label Brontosaurus and they played many live shows all around the globe.
His debut solo album "Phillips" was released in spring 2012 on Running Back, followed by "Borndom" 2015 on Permanent Vacation.
In 2013 he started to get serious with Gerd Janson: as Tuff City Kids they put out one release after the next and started to play shows together.

There is a remarkable elegance to the way Pete, best known as Lawrence, found his space as an artist internationally somewhere between Hamburg and Tokyo. Lawrence produces, djs and at rare occasions plays live. Doing this for over a decade and fluently moving through ambient, experimental and club music, he now completes a trilogy of albums on his japanese home MULE MUSIQ, run by Toshiya Kawasaki. „Yoyogi Park“ (2016) is his seventh album overall and after many classic releases - also appearing on Pampa, Cocoon, Ghostly International or Underground Quality - he delivers what people grew to love: subtle but playful house and techno music, equally vulnerable and liberating. With Lawrence being a true collaborator, there should be hardly anyone interested in contemporary electronic music who has not been touched by his work in one small way or the other. A fleeting moment on a dancefloor, at home wearing headphones or holding a stunningly designed record sleeve. Together with like-minded artists, Lawrence laid the groundwork for his presence co-founding the free-spirited labels DIAL in 2000 and SMALLVILLE in 2005, also marking the beginning of his long-standing collaboration with visual artist Stefan Marx.
Starting out at the legendary Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg he now is a regular DJ in the scenes most beloved clubs (Panoramabar, Robert Johnson, Zukunft, Oval, Concrete...) where the DIAL allnighter consistently showcases the labels artistic depth. And it still isn’t all he does. One might also catch him playing with his experimental Improv-band „Sky Walking“ alongside Christian Naujoks and RVDS. As with his own music he found a striking balance of outlets as an artist, offering fragile concerts, exciting decisions for his labels and intense, emotionally intricate DJ-sets. A worldwide touring schedule with stops at festivals like Mutek, Dimensions or Dekmantel takes Lawrence to where he feels most at home: out there, sharing music.

Move D, aka David Moufang, is one of modern electronic music’s most beloved souls with a long and varied musical history with roots in 60s and 70s jazz, psychedelic, rock, soul and early electronica.

Making his first appearance on vinyl as part of a school bands competition in 1983, it was only another four years before he started toying with the medium as a DJ, playing funk, soul, hip-hop and proto-house.
In the 90s things began to move fast with the inception of his Source Records imprint, early productions (including the debut Move D LP ‘Kunststoff’ – Source Records, 1994) and the beginnings of a 26 album relationship with close friend, the late Pete Namlook. Since then, Moufang has become an unassuming heavyweight in house music as a producer for countless forward thinking labels, a collaborator and a truly original selector.

His discography is long and impressive and holds releases on a broad variety of labels such as Source, Modern Love, Workshop, Smallville, Warp, Running Back, Uzuri and Electric Minds among others plus collaborations and involvements in projects like Magic Mountain High (w. Juju & Jordash) and Reagenz (w. Jonah Sharp).

Not one to slack off, his live and dj performances have been on par with (if not superior to) his studio work, pulling from all corners of his diverse catalogue in order to create an experience that attacks the hips and head in equal measure.
His releases touch on house conventions but are delivered in his own inimitable style, leaving everyone - from long time fans to the uninitiated - with their jaws on the floor and their hands in the air.

Ata is the daddy mac of both the club- and label Robert Johnson plus the house kingpin there. Upon returning to Frankfurt from a life-altering club night in Barcelona, he decided that he wanted to be a DJ, and has since come a long way – from his early days at Delirium record store, unforgettable nights at the Omen or his seminal Wild Pitch Club.

Since then Ata has co-founded the (very nearly holy) trinity of the Playhouse, Klang and Ongaku labels and the now legendary Robert Johnson club in Offenbach, a landmark in Europe’s club scene ever since its inception.

Amongst all this it would be easy to forget that he is still a DJ at the prime of his powers if it weren’t for his marathon sets that still have the power to turn lives around.

Because let's face it: There are more DJs in the world than basil leaves in Liguria and they come in all sizes, shapes and colors. Despite the latest developments and modern hotchpotch like laptop-deejaying there still is this almost metaphysical little extra pinch that's so hard to describe and that separates the wheat from the chaff. And for that Ata is a prime example.
How exactly this man manages to fascinate when stoically spinning records for hours on end, mixing emotion and intention, guiding the crowd is his secret. We may assume it is experience.

Isolée is Rajko Mueller, born in Frankfurt/Main.

Rajko was bored by synth-pop and EBM in the end of the eighties and listened more to rock and independent music. Friends made him discover house-music, hip-hop and techno in the early 90ies. He restarted to copy this on his old syntheziser and soon realized the need of more equipment.

After the landmark LP »REST« it took 5 years to maturate a successor. Rajko moved to Hamburg and well in 2005 the time had come and »WE ARE MONSTER« (Playhouse) drew massive critical acclaim from The New York Times over Pitchfork Media unto all those music magazines you read. It became one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year.

In 2011, he released his third full-lenght album "Well Spent Youth" via DJ Koze's Label Pampa.
